UD really creates problems for themselves using redemption cards. If they don't have the cards in-hand they should not offer them in the set. I would not be surprised to see them get sued for false advertizing. Imagine what would happen if you listed an item in the classifieds and after someone bought it you told them, "Look, I don't have the item you bought, but I'll give you something else. It won't be worth as much but that's just too bad." You would be arrested if you did that!

I've heard all the excuses, too. The player didn't return them. They were stolen. The player refused to sign. Etc... If you don't have them in-hand, don't list them in the set!

When you buy let's say a bag of chips. On the bag, there is a printed expiration date, best before. Their guarantee is valid up to that date. However passed that date, and you still buy it, then they are not legally bound to honour its freshness. So you're lucky to get something, they are not obliged to send you something. It sucks, yes, but that's the game UD plays. The more I think about redemptions, their excuse for not having enough time to produce it is a joke, the real reason must be to make more money. They wait until they receive a batch of redemptions, then they will send the cards for the players to sign. That way, a lot of redemption will expire, and they will save $.

i had the same problem and was told it was on the retailers to tell us the redemptions have expired before we buy.

Hmm I've got a couple redemptions I don't like much. If UD will send something just as good or better I think I'll let them expire and take my chances :)

Agreed! You should be happy that they've even decided to give you anything for a redemption that has already expired before you pulled it. The expiry dates are put on there for a reason and are not really Upper Deck's responsibility after they have expired.

Redemptions shouldn't expire they are nothing like a bag of chips, hockey cards don't go stale and soft with a greasy dirt flavour lol
They should only produce as many redemptions as they have cards available. It's more like a gift certificate, I think it was 2 years ago in Canada a law was passed that gift certificates couldn't have an expiry date. They've already taken your money so why can't they provide the product promised?

I agree with both of you, UD has no responsibility to honor EXPIRED redemptions, if they offered you anything TAKE IT, the product is 4 years old, and the expiration date is well over a year old, if I remember correctly, I could see calling them if the expiration date just expired, within say 1 month TOPS, but over a year, be glad to get anything at all. And to expect a card company to have Redemptions that NEVER EXPIRE is impossible. They couldnt just for the sheer volume of cards they would have to keep onhand. I am not trying to side with UD, I agree REDEMPTIONS STINK. but We all know they exist. So noone should be surprised if they pull one......so as they old saying goes....TAKE THE MONEY AND RUN.......meaning take whatever they offer you, its a GIFT, they dont have to provide

If you are guaranteed an Autographed card in a box, you should get one. Thats why I bought the box. There is no expiration date on the box so they screw you AFTER you already purchase their product.

The leftovers from expired/lightly claimed redemptions are what you'll be getting most likely, so if it wasn't for expiration dates you might not get anything at all. Yeah it's kind of dumb to put an expiration on something like cards, but you can't expect companies to hold on to ten year old cards (just an example) in the event somebody finally redeems them a decade later.

They give people a chance to get the stated cards, then once the date passes if they have any left they go into the pool to be sent to disgruntled collectors who didn't get their redemptions. Viscious cycle

if it was an expired redemption be happy if they give you anything! it says on the box, time sensitive redmptions. My local card shop wont bring in 05/06 product for this exact reason, I don't think anyone should blame upper deck for redemptions, blame the players for not signing and sending it back to them on time, i'm sure UD doesn't want to spend the time and money mailing them. I always look at it as Redemptions are the price we pay for hard signed autos.
