The 2009 racing season at Double-X Speedway officially began Sunday night. Track promoter, Kyle Wirts, stated that weather conditions nearly postponed opening night but with the help of dedicated family and friends it became a reality. Despite muddy conditions, racing concluded just minutes after the ten o’clock hour.
The evening’s events included a flaming car venturing down the front stretch, a winged sprinter literally trying to fly through turn three, and two returning 2008 point champions claiming feature victories.
Returning point champion Jeremy Gordon of Sedalia put his name at the top of the 2009 Hobby Stock point chart when he crossed the feature finish line in front of Luke Skidmore of Green Ridge. Miranda Arnold of Sedalia placed third with Brian Murphy of Jefferson City fourth followed by California’s Cherry Wineland. Point leaders are Gordon 95, Skidmore 93, Arnold 85, Murphy 79, Wineland 75.
