    Is a card /10 really /10

I was pondering a thought on my way to work last night. All the low numbered hit, the SP's. How rare are they? Think about it, you pull a card /10 out of Artifacts, will ever single box of that product be broken? How many /10 will really be out there, 4,5,6? Maybe I sound crazy, but most products, serial numbered cards are probably less then what the number is, due to unopened products.

In other news, the only LCS I have within 25 miles opened back up!!! Yay another way to lose my money. He also lowered his prices, and picked up more hockey!

And in more news. Go wings.

Hardly ever will an entire print run /10 be pulled unless the product itself is extremely short printed, i.e. The Cup. Even then it is not likely. From what I've seen usually between 40-60% of the product print run for the popular stuff ends up on Ebay, which still leaves a pretty good amount of stuff unaccounted for.

I understand what you are saying about unopened product. but if the card is LIVE, than yes a /10 is/10, if its a redemption, and the redemptions go UNREDEEMED, well than its a different story, because said company is suppose to destroy all unreedemed cards, and to further complicate things, Ud holds back about 5 percent of any given print run for Damages supposedly..........wow my head is spinning

Yes it is live, but is it on the open market? Probably not all, I don't know, just something for the collectors to think, "Hey my /10 is more like /7" haha.

what about hshs redemptions, they say they are /20 but not all of them go to the full 20 being redeemed. for example i have a 06/07 btp hshs redemption of cheevers/parent #5/20 and i have only seen one other #7/20 does that mean there are only 7 of them out there or did i not see the others, maybe there are only 12 of them who knows

Just because there is a print of does not mean that it is the number of those cards available. If there are 10 cards, and only one gets pulled, that card is the only one so if you own it you have a lot more bargaining power. If someone else wants the card they can either pay a premium or just go bust a ton of cases to get it. The 08 Trilogy Ice Scripts Patrick Roy was an example of this. The first few months only a handful surfaced and they were selling for around $150, then all of a sudden a ton started surfacing and now they only sell for about $60.

Me personally Ive often wondered about this too...I think it would be cool if all collectors got together and registered their cards #d/15 or less....Like one giant website were you claim your serial number and provide proof that it is in your possession via scan or something of that sort...I know its a long shot crazy Idea...but Ebay and other sites alone will never give super accurate results for what cards are still unaccounted for...

This is absolutely a good idea. the only drawbacks are that not all collectors are connected via www, and card dealers who find themselves in possesion of these cards usually don't announce that they have them, as a way to trade with "inside the loop" people they prefer to trade with, and even afterward these collectors would not be likely to announce they have it.
My similar thoughts were to have an online database of all active collectors, and what it was they collected. only one problem. Not everyone would be on board with that idea. there has to be some sort of incentive for it to be a working idea.
