Why the public opinion shift on gun control?

Commentary: Why the public opinion shift on gun control?

Has public opinion shifted on gun control?

Yes. And in a very surprising way.

    Binghamton . . . Pittsburgh . . . Oakland . . . Samson, Alabama . . . Carthage, North Carolina . . . sensational incidents of gun violence all over the country.

Are we seeing an impact on public opinion?

Since 2001, a majority of Americans has favored stricter gun laws. Though support has been trending slightly down. Eight years ago, 54 percent of Americans wanted stricter gun laws compared to 50 percent in 2007, according to a Gallup poll.

And now? A sharp, sudden drop. Only 39 percent of Americans now favor stricter gun laws.

I can understand the reasoning behind the sharp drop, but I'm still very surprised to see it.

Well, I dont mind strict gun laws to prevent idiots from getting guns. I was put on hold for 2 weeks when I bought my AR because it was the second gun i had bought in a two week span haha. I also agree with that one senator that said if this new administration had its way it would ban guns altogether (of course they can only do that for the law-abiding citizens).

I don't buy into polls like this, they easily can be maneuvered as to who they ask, how many people they ask, what areas did they poll. To anyone looking at this post now, did they come to you and ask for your opinion on it? I know they didn't get my perspective. If they polled 10,000 people 8 years ago and asked another 10,000 people now of course the percentage will be varied. I bet we can go to different regions of the country and the percentage will still be over 50% as it was 8 years ago and that same day another area where it will be closer to 30%. Unless it does a full population poll then anything else would be a minuscule prospective of what everyone in america thinks

and how school shooting would be near eliminated and how petty criminals would be at more of a disadvantage at doing simple robberies and other crimes. If you make it harder for regular people to get guns then stuff like shooting from road rage or some kid getting his dads gun from the closet to kill some classmates would be almost at a dead stop. The pure criminals would still of course find the means to find weapons under the black market but those that aren't purely malicious would not act out and do the crimes just becuase they're having a bad day or get too carried away when they have one too many

And the regular citizen would have no way of stopping them...glad I have to rely on 10 minutes plus police response time, that should do the trick.

"gun control" is futile at this point. Private citizens have bought and sold weapons since the founding of the country. If a person wants a gun, there are ways to get them. Prohibition didn't work, the war on drugs didn't work, and outlawing guns won't work. I think the shift is due to a variety of issues such as the poor economy causing people to become more desperate, the threat of a terror attack (yes, some people believe a .45 in their house will prevent a cbr attack), and the perception that the new administration will outlaw gun ownership.

This reminds me, i haven't oiled mine in a while. sounds like a good easter weekend project.

Here in Las Vegas, we were voted yet again the most dangerous city in America. Now, I just bought a house in Summerlin (www.summerlin.com) an amazing suburb in vegas, but there a ton of breakins up here due to the large houses. Carrying a gun is a must, there are a lot of bad people out there.

Let's say your walking to your car out of the grocery store at 8:00 PM and some guy comes up to you with a knife and wants your wallet. He doesn;t care if he kills you for some money. You need to protect yourself, you never know. Cops are never around.
