Collecting 101: A Primer On Hobby Venacular
I received an email from a reader who has recently returned to the hobby to share the experience with his young boys and relive some of his youth. He brought up a very good point that many of us take for granted, Hobby lingo.
The Hobby has changed in many ways through out the years and for those readers who are new to collecting or getting back into collecting, I present a Hobby Glossary. I am sure I will forget a few or screw-up a few, so please, in the comments provide a corrected or new term and definition when applicable, so this post can serve as a resource for our returning brethren. So let's get started.
Short Print or SP- A card printed in less quantity than other cards in the set. These are often rookies.
Insert- A subset of the main or base set

I just share things I enjoy reading thought sometimes they all don't apply to me. Of course it still useful and very true of the hobby. Just figured I share it and if anyone get a use out of it mission accomplished. Thanks for the comment about it being helpful.

I (respectfully) take issue with your definition of an insert set. "A subset of the main or base set" suggests that insert sets are part of the base set when they are separate sets randomly inserted into packs of the base set. It's a subtle but important distinction. The word "subset" in and of itself means "a set within a set". An insert set is not part of the base set. They have their own numbering and their own entries in a price guide.
Take 2013-14 SP Authentic as an example. The Authentic Moments cards are a subset of the base set. The Silver Skates cards are an insert set.
So I propose the definition "A smaller, separate set randomly inserted into packs of the base set".
