    Ebay Newbie Question

Hey again guys, thanks for the help last time, but I have another question.
This time I'm the seller, an item has sold, but in the listing I didn't say that payment was due by a certain date. How long do I have wait before I can take the item and re list it?
Oh, and I've sent a couple messages through the bay and a reminder through paypal but havn't heard back from buyer.

    Thanks again!

This is a toughy. In my experience, I've had to wait up to three weeks for payment. The reason I waited so long was because it was a NYI patch card that sold for a BIN/BO. I'm not sure i could have gotten more, so I was willing to wait to see if the buyer came through. In the end they did, but it was a bit nerve-wracking.

A reason why you might have a late payment is because the person is trying to shore up Paypal funds (see all the "Must sell now" threads in the sale forum?). Some buyers process payments on the weekend only.

rule of thumb, wait a week (or up to two wekends). If its a great sale for a great final price to you, wait up to two weeks, then file a 'non-paying buyer". then, its your to relist. Don't wait too long through because if you want to offer a second chances to other bidders, you sometimes need to act within that 1-2 week window otherwise the next highest bidder will have picked up the item from someone else.

    Cheers,
    reoddai

I would say 2wks after auction ends... thats the most time I would give the buyer before I file a dispute on Ebay

I think a week is a reasonable amount of time to wait. Given that many auctions are won in the final moments by a sniper, they're usually online right away and most pay within minutes of the auction's end. There's not really a good reason--unless the buyer contacts the seller within a short timeframe explaining a good reason--to delay paying for more than a week, in my view.

RGM is right, as usual. If the seller has cleary said "pay within 7 days of auction end" (or some other time frame) then I think it's pretty reasonable that they buyer chose to take that time frame before paying (adding funds to their paypal account, waiting for pay day, whatever).

I really think of a good reason to wait more than a week. If it's a really big ticket item (say $100 or more) I know I've contacted sellers in the past (before the auction ended) and told them that I'd be paying for it on 'X' date if I won. So long as the communication is there, no one (that I've seen) has ever had much of a problem.

The fact that your buyer isn't responding to emails is what would concern me, much more than the fact that he hasn't paid yet. While I don't think there's a good reason to have to wait longer than 1 week, I probably would wait 2 weeks before filing the non payer complaint with eBay.

Thanks guys, I'm sending a message giving the buyer a week. It's a box, and I can get the same or more if I relist it.
