What was your first set?
I remember back when I was a "preteen" in the mid 80's, I went to the drugstore for no telling what. As I my mother was checking out, out of the corner of my eye I caught a glimpse of a pack of baseball cards. It was a pack of 87' Topps and my mother bought me a pack. I didn't collect yet, but I wanted some gum. I opened up that first pack, and I became hooked. To me, it's still one of the best looking sets to come around, so I said I will collect this. That was my first set.
My question is, what was the first sports card set you put together, bought or were given as a gift and/or what you think is the best looking set out there.

1987 Donruss and 1987 Topps completed them about the same time back in 1987. I bought enough of the 87 topps to finish 3 sets. Had to get a couple commons at shows for the Donruss.
The last two sets to be completed (last year) were 89 Upper Deck and 85 Topps. Best looking? Base sets - I like the 87 Topps. Insert sets - 2001 Donruss Legendary Lumberjacks.

My first set was 2005 trilogy signature materials set. I first saw one of these cards in a local card shop. It was a Don Mattingly that the owner put on display. One day I came across a Jeter, pujols, and Jose Reyes and liked them all so much, decided to complete the set.
It took 14 months, but its complete. See link below..

my first set was 1990 donruss, because it was really cheap and fun for me at 9 (even though it was only 7 years ago)

2003 Topps. They were at the checkout line for 99 cents, and it all went uphill from there.
