Are you serious? Luongo didn't blow the series for the canucks. THE CANUCKS DID. There were way to many chances that they missed and gave up. You don't leave it to game 7 to decide a series. Good teams find ways to win before a game 7.

The goalie can't be counted on for a game 7. Look at Varlamov, Thomas and Luongo. Great goalies but even greats have a bad game.

I thought Luongo stood on his head against the Blackhawks, espiacially every time the Canucks fell back into the "trap" defense. I think one of the things that did them in was all the penalties they started taking and the Backhawks getting hot on the PP. I would take Luongo before Khabibulin and Huet any day. I would even take him before Osgood. lol

I take him before all those goalies listed. Would take him before a lot of other goalies perhaps 1 or 2.

I only take Brodeur, maybe Cam Ward (As much as I hate him), over Luongo

Luongo, Miller, Brodeur, Ward, Thomas, Nabokov, Fleury, Lundquivst, Turco, Kiprusoff, Backstrom. The only proven game in game out top goaltenders in the league
(Not putting in Mason, Hiller, Varlamov based on one season or postseason)

So thats 11 out of 32, 3 of those 11 didnt make the playoffs, and not because of their play.

Of the other teams not listed that made the playoffs (Ducks, Jackets, RedWings, BlackHawks, Canadiens, Flyers, Captials)

2 of them arent sure what their goalie situation really is (Canadiens, Flyers)
-For most of the season, Philly kept switching between Biron and Nittymaki, Biron was good last year, but Philly has been on him this year
-The Canadiens thought they had the next Roy in Price, but hes a kid, and despite a promisiing future, you see alot of Habs fans, even the coaching at times, wondering if hes ever going to be the one.

4 of them flipped to the backup goalie and rode them in the playoffs (Capitals, Ducks, Blackhawks, Redwings)
-Caps went to Varlamov, a rookie, after game 1 in round 1
-Ducks went with the young hot hand in Hiller over Giguere, a cup winner, vezina winner
-Blackhawks took Khabibulin over Huet, who they brought in and had at one point put Khabibulin on waivers
-RedWings finally got OsGood to stand up after being not only benched but sent down to the minors at one point in the season.

My point is it might seem like there are servicable goalies all over and you could get a cheap one instead of paying a top tier goalie and get similar results, but its not neccessairly the case when you really look at it.

Luongo went to the finals before, and carried Flordia for many many years.

People say goalies are a dime a dozen, but look at Al Montoya, real high draft pick years ago, and hasnt been starting in the league yet.

For all we know, Mason, Hiller, Varlamov, or Rinne could fall off the map next year and be tossed aside, look at Leclaire.

I think you go with the great goalie, the proven commodity, but thats just my 2 cents

woah...you need to check that list there. Nabby, fleury, miller, turco, and backstrom pretty much stink, based on their post season play. Fleury is just lucky that his team scores so many goals. Just so you know Chris Osgood was never the backup goalie. Ty Conklin was. Besides like ive said before regular season play means nothing. Osgood and the wings even say that all they play for is the playoffs every year. They could care less about the regular season as long as they get in.

I think most of us are talking about having a certain goalie for the whole season not just the playoffs.
How can you say the regular season means nothing????? You need to win to make the playoffs. You need to win to get home ice and you need to care to win games. It's great when the team you cheer on makes the playoff, but it's always feels better when your team finishes in the top four than just making it to the top eight.

for wings fans the only thing that matters is winning the cup, we could care less about presidents trophies, seeding, and all that other crap.

Hasnt anybody learned from Michiganice91 yet? The Wings are perfect in every way, and only lose if they decide they want to lose. Naturally, this being said, the teams we all support are all irrelevent and not worthy of being considered in the same league as the precious Wings. Also, clearly Osgood is the greatest goalie to ever play the game and all other goalies are garbage. Hope I cleared everything up for everybody...

    lol
