Question on Book Values and Sell Values
This thought will always be similar with religion. There is no right and there is no wrong . its waht a collector believes in its like faith.
my question is how do you make both ends meet ?
i have been always fair to all my trades, been giving a lot of freebies if my situation allows it and receives some good deed as well. Never did i take advantage of any trader on every sport i trade with(Basketball peeps can for sure attest to that)
dilemna is i need cards for my set traders come in and offer cards u need. Transaction talk follows but in course resulted to BV trader vs SV trader.
there are cards with BV $15 that has selling capabalities of $15-25 range
and there are $25 dollar cards that can be bought only for 99 cents
im just wondering what compromise can be done on situations like these without offending trading partners ?

Honestly I think book values are bogus...it just makes it so people try to get more than a card is actually worth.

when i read a book value, when i see a low to high like there is... i try and keep it simple..
if the range is 40 low, 80 high... i take it as 80 will be the absolute highest i would receive for the card if i'm lucky, and i'll count my stars if i sell it for that. now, that range of 40 to 80, i will be happy selling it within that range, i would be content.
sometimes you will have to sell under that range, but it will even out because lots of times you will buy under that range...
i hope that made sense, but in terms of selling, that's how i use the book value, only as giving me that range, spectrum i guess

I agree with delacroixandora, book values are stickly guide lines.

You very, very rarely see a card sell for the HI range. The generally accepted rule of thumb is to start at around 50% and go from there. This doesn't stop people from saying "yeah but I can get it on eBay for 25% BV" in which case you just say "then go get it on eBay and take your chances with PWE shippers and people who jack up their shipping costs." When a card's sale value starts to push the HI range (ie. hot playoff run, very limited set) they tend to increase it.
