The Raw card is really just like the BGS as far as grading goes. Not to be confused with BCCG which to me is worthless. That one grades very liberally as a BCCG 10 = about a BCG 9 (mint)
There are no partial grades in BCCG and there are in Raw Grade.
The big differences are for Raw Grade there is no hard sealed case and there are no subgrades.
It makes no sense to me to get Raw Grades since at most shows Beckett gives a special of $10/card for the real deal. And you get no break to send in a raw card - you still have to pay full price to get it slabbed.
I think there is really only one reason to do it. If you are at a show and are planning to spend big bucks on a card you hope to get graded. Suppose the dealer pullsone of these "I promise you'll get a Gem on it". Well you buy it, send it in and it comes back 8.5, you lost. But if you buy it and get it graded on site, you'll know before you leave. Otherwise it makes no sense. Why not spend the same money to get it slabbed, though you have to pay shipping and you have to wait.
