New York’s Senate delegation is not known for its deep involvement in hockey, but last week Senators Charles E. Schumer and Kirsten E. Gillibrand became involved in the disputed bankruptcy and proposed move of the Phoenix Coyotes.

In a letter to N.H.L. Commissioner Gary Bettman on Thursday, Schumer and Gillibrand expressed their opposition to the Coyotes’ possible relocation to Hamilton, Ontario, saying it would jeopardize the economic viability of the nearby Buffalo Sabres.
