Just advertise yourself in laundramats and phone books, catch people selling there collections. Go and if its like mid 80s late 80s cards just dont buy them. you make money from buying vintage really, they are the most stable.

For the amount of time it takes to really research everything enough to make good decisions as to what to pay or what to buy it isn't worth it in my opinion. The problem with eBay is that all information is available to everybody on the site, so cards or players with good potential are known to everybody and sell as such. The only hope there is is to buy a prospect who looks good and hope he pans out (historically they don't, more often than not). Even in that case you need to buy the rookie autograph or a very low numbered card.

Buying a card off eBay and hoping to sell the same card for a profit is difficult because eBay kind of sets the market value and people won't pay more than what they just saw it sell for. Cards are normally expected to sell for very cheap-it isn't easy to find a card you have to sell at 50-90% off book (which is a lot of them) and still make a profit.

Sound hopeless yet? I didn't even get into counterfeits, cards you didn't realize were damaged, the time to sort through a collection, eBay fees, shipping fees both ways on eBay, or the minimal return on almost any packs or boxes

Buy this card and relist it at auction. The previous ones have all went over $160 and the high bidder is usually 95% of the time the same buyer who buys everything of her.

I've done it... buy and sell for profit on ebay. It really only works with baseball prospects and its a fairly long waiting process and takes some effort/research. Another way is to get BIN steals and relist.

newly listed auctions... for baseball prospects i search bowman chrome under baseball and look for BINs... The steals don't appear frequently, but every once in a while you will come across one if you know the previous market of that card. Generally, they have to be $10 cheaper at least to make it worth it for me...

You have to search frequently to find deals on ebay.
Spend hours each day to try to find the best deals.
They may be few and far between, but they're there.
