Coming soon: An Xbox without a controller?
Video game industry in flux as E3 opens
As the largest annual trade show for gaming enthusiasts, E3 is where the big players roll out their splashiest releases. Industry experts say Microsoft is expected Monday to unveil new motion-tracking technology, called Xbox Fluid, that will let gamers use their bodies to act out what their characters do in a video game.
The device sounds similar to Nintendo's popular Wii. But Xbox Fluid is expected to employ a camera that senses a player's body movements so it doesn't require a handheld remote, as the Wii does.
The first thing that came to my mind was playing Halo or something similar without a controller, just doing the actions. Of course, how do you shoot, change weapons, etc? Sounds like a great idea, but I think it's a long way from being used on a lot of games.
The article has more info from the E3 as well.

you know I've always had this thought in my head for what IMO would be the ultimate video game system.
I would love to see a video game system that would project 3D holographic Images on to some sort of table (say like your coffee table). I think that would be bad arse! Imagine playing a game of Madden where the figures are 3D and running around on your table top!!!
as for the Xbox system ... eh, I don't like the Wii all that much due to the movement crapola, so I'm not sure the Xbox would appeal to me either.

This is horrible in my opinion, i mean they have this game already called Just like the Movies or something and then they use the cameras for the players to act out scenes and get points.

Aren't you like 80 years old? What are you doing caring about video games? I didn't know you get a lot of Xbox repairs in the Amish community.
When you mentioned this the game that came to mind was the motion capturing boxing game in Arcades. This sounds like a great idea and is def. going to be the future of video games, I'm just skeptical if they will be able to pull it off (quality wise) while making it affordable.
As for a 3D holographic game, at a Gameworks a few years ago I saw a thing where you would stand on a platform and it would import you into the game (I believe it was Tekken) and your movements would be acted out, so you would be literally punching and kicking a character.

Interesting concept, but games like Halo and Call of Duty wouldn't work...
Oh, Gears of War would be interesting for this...to roll, would one actually have to roll on the floor? lol

I don't see it being plausible for a lot of games. I would hope that if they do shift to this that they still leave the option for controllers for people that don't enjoy the new framework.

Yeah, I'll stick with a controller for a while.
