That's crazy, all the more reason to make sure checklists are FINALIZED so you know what is actually out there. Nice lead into my post Don.

Hey,
Just wanted to say thanks for your blogs on some of the scams going on in our hobby. Being a relatively new collector (a little over 2 years), its valuable info. Thanks for the knowledge!

I'm talking about the ol' "Congratulations! You have recieved an autographed card from..." on the back of the card. It would be really hard to fake the back of a hockey card. Maybe fix one up with photoshop, but that would only work on the internet when buyers only have pictures to work with. The less experienced might fall for it.
Has anyone here actually been taken by this "re-sticker" scam?
Has anyone here actually been taken by the "fake patch" scam I am hearing about?
This is so sad! No, the word I'm looking for is pathetic!!!!

It amaxing how quick he did it and I was like wow. As you say it appears Hard Signed will be the way to go now if you want to truly keep the cards valuable.

Before everyone cries doom and gloom there is a few things to consider.
Firstly, even when removed with razor blade the stickers appearance does change. The patch faking issue is a much larger concern than this will ever be. The only place I see this having an effect is in the buyback market and quite frankly there's already so many fake HARD SIGNED buybacks in circulation I don't care to ever attempt to own any (see the Tiger Woods Buyback fiasco for example along with the hundreds of fake Griffey, Arod, Jeter etc buybacks).
Here's good reading:

Secondly, like anything buyers still need to do their homework on purchases and know what they're buying. Naivety is no excuse, there's ample resources everywhere in this hobby and people need to use them rather than just forking out the cash.

that is absolutely disgusting, look at some of those prices... those prices to me are insane to begin with, but i`d say `well, he got himself the best player ever, and a hard to get auto to boot, or a one of one so good for him`
but those were fake..
