Tough Tough choice here ... Both of them were amazing at what they did. IMO though, Tupac was a tad bit more inspirational in his life time. From music to movies to poetry and books Tupac had his hands in everything.

And that was 10 years ago...not hard for him to do that when not much has changed since then. Hendrix is still a huge influence in a wider range of music today and he was 30 years ago.
Tupac is a huge influence on rap and hip hop...Hendrix is a huge influence on any style of music that has a guitar.

i dont think you can really go wrong with either of these two artists...but i think you might be just slightly discrediting tupac...you are right that tupac is a huge influence on rap, but rap is a huge influence on ALL current music...there's a lot of rap rock now, and i even hear country songs influenced by rap...where hendrix influenced guitars, tupac has a similar influence on lyrics
i dont expect tupac to win this matchup, but this is the correct final round...i'd be curious to know how many people who voted for hendrix have actually listened to 2pac, and vice versa...im willing to bet most of the people who voted for tupac have listened to a lot of Hendrix, but not the other way around....maybe some of the old timers will give tupac a listen now? haha...doubtful, but maybe...

I can see that, but I would be the numbers of artists influenced by Hendrix greatly outweigh those influenced by Tupac. And yes, a lot of that has to do with the fact that Hendrix was around 30 years ago and Tupac was only around 10...maybe in 30 years Tupac will have influenced more. But that's part of it...it's like with the Hall of Fame votings, longevity counts. Hendrix has been influencing people much longer than Tupac and that should be taken into consideration as well.
I would say that actually goes both ways. I'd bet most of the younger Tupac fans haven't heard much Hendrix, just the mainstream extremely popular stuff. And as with most of these type of polls, people are voting their preferences. Rap fans are voting for Tupac and rock fans are voting for Hendrix...most people either can't or don't bother to look at it objectively.
I like Tupac...he was one of the first rappers I ever liked and is still one of the few I can listen to and still enjoy. I remember when we used to cruise with Hail Mary or Me and My Girlfriend blasting...those two always take me back. And I'll admit I like Hendrix more...but if you objectively look at it, Hendrix has influenced more artists for a much longer time period. I agree it's a good matchup and Tupac's influence can't be denied, but he's not bigger than Jimi.

very good post Tiger Pimp...i agree that a lot are voting for musical preference rather than the artist...that's just a natural thing to do...
and no doubt hendrix has influenced more artists than tupac...but i do base a lot of that on the fact hendrix music has been around a lot longer...hendrix died before tupac was born...even the guy in my avatar called himself "The Jimi Hendrix of rap"
myself, i based my choice on more than just music though...tupac would not only still be relevant in rap music today (i mean, he's been dead almost 13 years and he's still relevant)...but i honestly believe tupac would've won oscars for his acting ability....****, we might've been talking about tupac the mayor or governor...he was just that kind of once in a lifetime talent & personality...some will shrug at me and say i'm crazy, but other's know i'm not exaggerating at all

2pac wasn't a rapper, he was a poet. and thats why he is/was/and remains the best of the music industry today.

Hendrix is more talented musically, but as far as an all around celebrity talent, I'd have to go with Pac. He could have done it all in showbiz.

Just a poet? Jimi was a poet and played the guitar...
