I suggest getting a 07-08 Topps Stadium Club. Blowoutcards has specials on the weekend. It's a good way to start if your looking for inserts,rc,gu's and auto's.

Start with the cheaper products to get a feel of whats out there. You don't want to spend $100 on boxes and get nothing. You can also focus on what you want to collect. A certain team, player, autographs or set? If you don't know what you really want you can easily spend thousands of dollars on cards.

You need to decide if you want to be a set collector, team collector, player collector, or seller first. Second, you need to know how much extra money you have to spend. You can do high end but I would start out with some cheaper products at first. Figure out what you like to do.
