OFFICIAL Fighting Mongoose's Hockey Thread:
Ok, so I dont know if this will be of any interest to anybody but I thought it'd be fun to write up a little thread to talk about our roller hockey team.
Me, my brother (Gunnarstahl9), and my buddy Joe (jmdorsey) have always loved playing hockey but none of us had families who could afford the high cost of playing. Naturally, we picked up roller hockey as a less expensive but still awesome game. We played pick-up style hockey as much as we could when we were younger. Organizing a team we called the "Sanborn Irish" when we were about 10-11 years old. We played in our neighborhoods as the Irish, searching out other groups of teams to match up against for about 5 years until we sort of grew apart as a team. After I graduated, and could no longer play football (the sport I settled on and then learned to love after learning of the high costs of hockey) we started to play again and found that we were pretty decent for a bunch of kids with no coaching or instruction. We decided to enter into an organized roller hockey league and formed a team we call "The Fighting Mongoose's".
The Mongooses soon realized that there was some talented roller hockey players in the area, and our first session we won a grand total of 2 games (out of 18). We practiced a bit, and grew closer as a team for the 2nd session in which we improved to 13 wins, and 22 losses. We actually made a decent playoff run, and were knocked out in the finals right before the championship game.
Last session, we improved yet again finishing with a respectable 4th place finish out of 10 teams and a 20-15 record. We were again eliminated in the finals before the championship game though.
This summer session just started 3 weeks ago, we lost the first game, and then won our last two in convincing fashion to improve to 2-1. Last night, we won our game in a lopsided 17-4 victory in my first game after being sidelined with a basketball caused ankle sprain.
I plan on updating this thread after each game, since I know people get bored and may find it interesting to follow our little SCF roller hockey team lol.

It not all about winning it just about having fun. Of course winning can make things more enjoyable. Been in those losing battles before in sports but usually win or lose their a ton of good moments to remember especially if you close with the players on the team. Look forward to the pictures in the future.

I've been playing Ice Hockey since I was about 8 (that's 21 years and counting now) always played a ton of ball hockey when I was younger, but that pretty much stopped by my late teens.
I still play in a couple of rec leauges for Ice Hockey, but I've got a ton of friends who can't skate :) Last fall we got a group of 10 of us to sign up for a ball hockey league (it's played in a gym, on feet.... not rollerblades). Did a fall session and a winter session of it, and had a blast (though, we got beat pretty bad. None of us can play goalie very well).
Glad to hear you guys are having fun with it! I know our group certainly is.

Its cool to hear about other members experiences with roller/ball hockey. I love playing. Last night I played injured (sprained ankle last week pretty bad), and had my best game in like a year and a half lol (5 goals, 3 assists) :)
Workin on getting some pictures up now, and taking some new ones at our next game
