Former Islander Retires
The former Islanders defenseman Kenny Jonsson is retiring after a 19-year career that included two Olympic championships with Sweden. Jonsson, 34, spent the last four seasons with the Swedish club Rogle. In May, he was the captain of a Swedish team that finished third at the world championship. Jonsson played in 705 N.H.L. games, with 64 goals and 207 assists in 10 seasons, mostly with the Islanders. He won a gold medal with Sweden at the 1994 and the 2006 Winter Games.
