Something I noticed about almost ALL autographed cards...
certified that is...why don't players add there #?????
it's weird...it would be cool i think...
they do like nicknames and topps had that whole city thing like the jcrawford had "Windy City" but no #'s? I personally like seeing the # on there when i get a card signed in person. why would they not do this I wonder?

well i guess it has to do with volume they sign after signing say like 1000 or more cards they try to write as little as possible ,i have seen the early signature cards from a certain run where the signature is beautiful but towards the end they are just plain ugly looking thanks for the read take care spuds

Well, sometimes companies print sets that specialize in these (ex. 2003 Donruss Signature Notations). However, if a base auto has a notation, then it will usually bring a premium (somewhere in the 10%-20%). I guess if every athlete added one, they would no longer be "special".

both roy williams autos i have have their college jsy numbers. however, i don't see many other people consistently do it unless they are rookies which both these cards are. that's what makes certain sets like sp chirography so much better because people like Ichiro will sign their english name along with his japanese signature.

One that does it pretty often is Goose Gossage. There are a few other old timers that do that also but I can't remember who they were.
