The Thrashers have acquired veteran defenseman Pavel Kubina and forward Tim Stapleton in exchange for defenseman Garnet Exelby and forward Colin Stuart. Kubina adds size (6-4, 245-pounds) and experience (11 NHL seasons, 2004 Stanley Cup champion) to the Thrashers defensive corps.

A workhorse on the blueline, Kubina also brings offensive skill to the roster, recording 40 points in each of the last two seasons with the Maple Leafs, while averaging more than 21-minutes of ice time per game throughout his career. He has surpassed the Thrashers single-season record for goals by a defenseman (10) on four occasions, including last season when he tallied 14 and his career-high mark of 17, set in 2003-04.
