Listen to these guys. Using a .22 on a deer is animal cruelty. Unless you hit perfect, they will never go do down. Caliber of bullet is much to small

I have Speedmaster too. If you really want a nice .22 get a BRNO model #4. With no wind I can get it to shoot under an inch @ 100 yards. Nice deer.

I have a Ruger 10/22 with a Bull Barrel on it , that will almost group that tight.

I would definitely not buy a used gun for your first one. There can be many things slightly wrong and you will not want to learn to shoot on a used gun... That being said you can pick up a nice little .22 for under 400 bucks pretty easily... I bought a marlin .22 semi automatic about 2 years ago and spent around 310 for it. With scope and everything that gun turned out to be around 400 even. Also check to see what types of guns you can use. In Indiana you cannot hunt with rifles on bigger game. Shotgun only on deer...

try a .30-06. You can't beat the price and value of the gun!

.30-06 is a great all around rifle. Your shoulder may something about it later and thats where the flinching comes in.
