Another Sports Card Shop Rant....
Two new items came out this week that I really wanted to get my hands on:
1. 2009 Press Pass Series 2 (NASCAR)
2. 2009 Topps A&G
In the past the local shop has been pretty good with trading when you wanted to pick up boxes of the newer stuff.
I took eleven (11) NASCAR cards to the shop yesterday (total BV of $758.00). I knew I would not get the BV on them, but had figured 20-30% would be good. In the past he has been very kind and has given 40-50% of BV.
He takes the cards...tells me "nice selection"...and goes to the computer and begins to check them against eBay sales. He does this all the time, so I was not worried.
About 15 minutes later he returns with the cards and tells me that one of the cards with an $80.00 BV (Kurt Busch Black Flag) "just sold on eBay for $4.00".
Then proceeds to tell me the $120.00 BV autograph (Kasey Kahne) sells "all the time" on eBay for $10.00 to $20.00.
I was thinking he would just say "let me have these and you can have the A&G and Press Pass, even up". He has begged me in the past to do a trade instead of him buying.
After everything was said and done...I was offered $50.00 for all the cards.
I asked for a trade...NOPE!...wasn't going to happen. I did not take the $50.00.
He does not stock much in NASCAR because he has NO NASCAR customers....guess what....I think he lost one more.

Soon you will be able to show him SCF OPG data to counter his low offers. :)

from what I could tell...he was on the computer looking them up, but to be honest...he could have been blowing smoke up my rear!

Yeah I'd check out the recent eBay sells myself and make sure he wasn't blowing smoke up your skirt...it sounds like you still wouldn't sell for that, but at least you'd know if he was being honest or trying to rip ya.

Yeah....that sucks. Check the prices on ebay yourself and print them out. I would take it to him and let him know that he lost a customer

Man that sucks I find it hard to believe the prices he quoted you,an 80 dollar card will not sell for 4 dollars unless it's badly listed same with the 120 dollar auto for 10 to 20 bucks.Next time get the average completed sales before you go and keep it in your pocket, when he starts quoting you those lowball figures take out your prices and tell him he just lost a customer plus some others with the word of mouth you are gonna give his shop.
