In my opinion Savard should never have been coach of the hawks. He was bought in by old man Wirtz. Wirtz had a history of bringing in old players that he liked and giving them jobs all though out the organization, espically making them coaches with no coaching experience. Savard was an assistant coach with the team for about a year and a half and was in charge of the powerplay. Well, while he was assistant the powerplay was near the bottom of the league. Look at some of the coaches the Hawks have had the last 20 years, Savard,Yawney,Sutter,Graham,Preston,Pulford.
As far as Tallon, he is one of the few hold overs from old man Wirtz regime. With as bad as the Hawks have been the last 7-8 years any REAL hockey fan could have drafted the players that he has the last couple of years. Trade wise the only players on the roster that he has traded for are Sharp,Versteeg and Ladd. Tallon took full responsibility for what happened with the RFA thing. Anybody that follows the Hawks could have told you that once Scotty Bowman came over last year Tallon would be gone eventually. This whole RFA thing gave the higher ups the reason to fire him.
