David Anderson's Rights Traded to Houston
Houston - The Houston Rockets began the process of bolstering their frontline today, acquiring the rights to 6-11 center David Andersen in a trade with the Atlanta Hawks. In return for the Australian big man, Houston is sending cash and future considerations to Atlanta.
Andersen, 29, was originally selected by Atlanta in the second round (37th overall) in the 2002 NBA Draft. He joins the Rockets after spending the 2008-09 season with Regal FC Barcelona.
“David has been a winner with every team he has played for in Europe,” says Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey. “He is a very well-rounded player who possesses good offensive skills and a very good shooting touch for a big man. David is a versatile post player who should fit well in Coach (Rick) Adelman’s system.”
A native of Carlton, Victoria in Australia, Andersen averaged 11.1 points and 4.1 in helping FC Barcelona to the Euroleague Final Four this past season.
He was also a member of Australia's men's basketball team during the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Andersen averaged 6.5 points and 3.5 rebounds for the tournament.

Not really happy. We got our needed Center, but he is 29. Not young, and it seems like we are going semi-rebuilding with our young talent. His weakness is his rebounding and softness. We already have soft stars to begin with, and our toughest player went to the Lakers.
I hope he is not asking for more than 3 million, but he could be. Apparently, he was not happy on the amount Hawks were offering. I can't find the exact figure, so who knows how much they offered him. (For ya'll information, Scola got a 3 year deal for around 3 million each.)
The less money he takes, the more money we could use to resign Wafer if he is in our plan.

I feel I should chime in regarding Andersen as I am probably one of the few, if not only people on this board to actually watch him play before.
I watched about 2 dozen games this season of Andersen's team (FC Barcelona) because my guy Ersan Ilyasova was on that team as well
Offensively Andersen is a more perimeter oriented player. He'll back down smaller defenders and score a bit. But he mainly scores from mid-range jumpers where he is capable of creating his own shot as he has a decent handle of the ball for a guy his size.
For his size and position (C/PF) he is a below average rebounder. Defensively he is nothing special, though he can put a body on guys and he is rather mobile in comparison to other big men.
He isn't really starter material for an NBA team but he'd be an above average backup Center on most teams. I'd expect him to average about 8 ppg and 4 rpg if given about 18-20 minutes a night.
