Do racing cards hold their value better?

hey guys i was just looking around at some racing boxes and see that usually theres about 1 auto and 1 race used per box. as you all know this is alot less than basketball and other major sports. i think this is a great move by press pass to make the cards hold value better because it is still exciting to pull an auto or race used card rather than other sports where its getting commonplace. i dont believe theres an spx type product where theres a hit a pack which i believe is great and makes everything more exciting. what are your views on this?

Racing cards absolutely hold value better than stick and ball stuff does. For a comparison.....I can't go on eBay and get a Casey Mears RU for less than around $10. In football, I could go and pick up an Adrian Peterson GU, and an LT GU for $10 combined.

The big names in racing ALWAYS sell very well, and even the semi-stars will sell better than superstars in stick and ball sports....and the reason is because racing autos/RU stuff is so shortprinted, compared to the other sports.

If I had to guess, I'd say that for every 200 FB, BKB, BB, Hockey GU/Autos, there's around 1 Racing Auto/RU.

It's because there's only a few racing products, and every RU is short printed. In football, in any given year, there's probably over 5,000 different GU SETS that are made. Think about that. In racing, you have around 15 RU sets that are produced.....in stick and ball sports, you have close to 5,000 different GU sets made.

Until Showcase comes out this week, there has not been a one hit-per-pack product is NASCARds. The best product the last few years has been Legends, but it might change with Showcase...we'll see.

How do the older racing cards do in value? When a driver retires what happens to the value of the cards? There is a long history of cards in the other sports but I am not sure about Nascar. You guys will know the answer a lot better than I do.

I think the current value is just due to the fact that there are not a ton of over produced sets out yet for racing. We have so many products in the other sports that there really is nothing new or unqiue left. As soon as something becomes popular another company snatches the idea up and makes a ton of that style thus driving the price way down (GU,Patches, Letterman are all good examples).

That's the thing though....with racing, Press Pass is the only company that deals in cards....and they really can't put out any more sets than what they already do.....and I don't see them ever going in the direction of the stick and ball sports, so in essence, racing cards will always be so much more shortprinted than the other sports will be. Racing will never have even 10% of the amount of cards produced for Baseball, Football, Basketball, or Hockey.
