Question about grading

I have never had card graded, but now I'm considering it. I looked at the PSA page and the Beckett page and they ask that you not send in a top-loader but send in the semi-rigid holders.

I don't have a lot of experience with these types of card holders, but how do you fit a thick card into one of those semi-rigid card holders. Do they make different sizes? It seems like it might damage the corners if it is too thin.

In my experience, a card saver II (semi-rigid) has nicely held some of the thicker cards I have sent off (e.g., SPx jersey autos) as far as a card such as a Sweet Spot helmet auto, I don't know.

Thanks, I appreciate the help. I don't know anything about grading. I was planning on getting some cards graded and I got the first one in yesterday. But after looking at it I'm not sure.

There are two obvious marks on the surface - like slight indentions and then both of the upper edges near the corners appear to be ever so slightly chipped along the very edge. Oddly enough the corners themselves seem to be untouched.

Any idea as to if this is worth having graded? Or should I sell it and buy another one?

I mean I'm not expecting a 10, but I don't want a 7.5 either.

Is it a modern card or vintage, got a scan of it. Personally, unless it is pre 1970, I won't consider sending it off unless it looks like a 9--and even that is not 100% accurate. Grading, as with anything else is a subjective art. Unless you are looking to resell or worried about preserving one of your treasured items, I wouldn't do it.

Without seeing the card you are talking about, and assuming it isn't vintage, I wouldn't send a card that has chipping or indentations that are apparent to the naked eye. If you want to take a good look at a card, go buy yourself a jeweler's loupe, that will allow you to get a detailed view of the card--much like a grader will take.

It's a modern card. I just thought it would be fun. Collecting a certain set of cards with a minimum grading requirement. I might just resell it raw and then get another one.
