    Question Let's hear some advice..

Alright gang - just looking to see what y'all think:

I'm curious how you all decided on what you collect? Also, how do you keep from getting discouraged in the attempt to "complete" your personal collection?

See, I'm a Patrick Roy collector.. one of millions it seems. I grew up idolizing Patrick Roy and my collection is decent (close to 1000 different cards including many GU cards and a couple AU).. but I'm getting discouraged in the amount of competition I have in the field and the fact that there are SO many Roy cards - and high-end cards galore, which I know I'll never be able to afford or have decent enough tradebait for.

So I'd like to hear some feedback on how your PC was chosen, how do you keep from becoming discouraged.. and what some of you have taken into consideration when changing PC's (as I know some of you have!).

    Thanks for reading! :)

I collect Bill Ranford.... and he's certainly easier to do than Patrick Roy. (There's less than 600 cards total). I wouldn't let the fact that you can't get them all discourage you. Just get as many as you can get, at a price you can afford.

Do sets of Roy, like Artifacts, try that. Make it fun again. I plan to do that with the Staal's next year out of a product or two. Make the chase fun again

I started collecting Cammalleri when he moved to the flames for no specific reason and i collect Louis Leblanc because i used to play with him on the outdoor rink near my elementary school and i went and see most of his midget aaa games with my dad and brother.. When i get discouraged i stop for a while ( like 2 weeks) and when i get bored i just restart collecting

I collect some of my favorite players to watch, although I've specifically targeted ones on the lower end of the pay scale.

for example, my favorite player is actually Lecavalier but collecting him would racket up the costs quickly.

Did you find the Roy card where he holds his glove up , looking like the Statue of Liberty, only to see the puck has slid into the net? ;)

In all seriousness, I only try to collect autos of the guys in my PCs. Not cheap but keeps my costs limited

HAHA ! same thing here ! Very tough to stay collecting when they release new cards years after years ... every cards are sick ! What a Galore ! Already have close of 1400 Roy cards and the total % of the cards I own versus existing listing is less every year ! just to bad for old and poor collector like us :)

Very good question - something I ask myself whenever I think about a player collection.

I started the hobby out to collect autographs. Something small. Of course, my overall achievement is every hockey player to play the game. Something I'll never be able to accomplish, but a never-ending battle, and something I'm okay with for the few autographs that will never be found (or purchased!!).

So, wandering around this site enough and trading with quite a few different people, I came across many player collectors. It is definitely intriguing to see many different members and who they collect and how their collection is coming along. I thought to collect Kevin Bieksa, but soon got discouraged around Christmas as he had about 35 1/1s. Recently I decided to have a go again, and also add in Bret Hedican (I was a fan of his when he played with the 'Nucks). Needless to say, the Bieksa collection is a no go with 50+ 1/1s now, but at least the Hedican is achievable.

For you, it's tough because your favorite player is someone that is a lot of people's favorite player, and constantly has new and exciting memorablia that comes out. Think about why you started to collect him in the first place, and if that is not enough to satisfy you, perhaps you will have to find another favorite player who isn't quite so popular!!

Good luck either way - it's a hobby and is supposed to be fun!!

Well, Sid is one of my numerous fave players. Bogosian and Little are because they have LOADS of potential and are former Wolves and I just like them as players. Kane and Toews and Hjalmarsson are Hawks. Olesz, NO idea, lol. Stamkos, why not??? Hawks, LOVE THEM!!! YGs, love the design and the player selection. CC, nice big low end set that won't be TOO difficult to finish.
