I'll also add that I don't see anything wrong with it from a legal perspective. The cliche applies here, "A card is only worth what someone will pay", and if he shill bids it past my max, then it's not worth the price to me. I don't buy the argument that it's fraud. Shady, maybe. I just blacklist them on My Ebay page and move on. Others will come along. They always do.

I wouldn't say that they overpaid in that auction you posted for the ewing 96-97 ultra platinum........that card is super rare and the print run is less than 250 sets

I know that set is really hard to find. =)

But Patrick Ewing is not player have many hardcore collectors like Alonzo Mourning, Shawn Kemp, Latrell Sprewell and Anfernee Hardaway.

That's the reason why I commented "overpaid".

Im glad I can help fellow traders with some information. I first encountered shill bidding when I found a card I have been looking for 2 years. With 1 hour left, I had to go to a meeting so I bidded $20 on it. I was winning the card at 99 cents. When I got back, I won the card for $20. The other bidder bidded 18 times in increments of $1.00. It showed that every 5 min, he would bid another $1 until I was the highest bidder.

A fellow trader told me that there are some websites that can bid automatically for you at a certain time, for example the last 10 seconds before an auction ends or multiple times at the lowest increments until your max bid has been met. Im sure there are a lot of dishonest EBAY sellers that shill bid and have their "other" ID to bid multiple times to increase their ending auction price.

Yes, it is called sniping, and you can imagine that eBay frowns upon it. However, I have used the free ones you get to my advantage everytime (like 5 free).

Thanks for the info on the ID btw.
If I ned the card, I am usually willing to go double bv if the og prce isn't too bad, once you get into the higher costs, then no.

But having been buying Ewings cards for the last 6 months or so on eBay, there hasn't been anything like the last week or two on these prices.
