Let's Play Two!
Hiya folks!
I stumbled over this site at 2 in the morning, while googling for something that I can't remember now. I collected cards from the age of 10 until I was in my mid-20's and really just quit purchasing them in the late 1990's once my kids were born and I realized money didn't grow on trees. A dozen years, three kids and one divorce later I have in my possession less than 1% of the cards I used to own, primarily a couple of packs I picked up over the past couple years off the shelf at places like Wal-Mart or Target, when out shopping with my children.
I picked "Big Klu" since Ted Kluszewski was my father's favorite player when he was younger. Dad doesn't get out to the park much anymore, but we still talk baseball together all the time. I love the "old timers" almost as much as he does, but it's always fun "educating" him about some new young pup. (Tim Lincecum anyone?)
I've decided to get back into collecting for the first time in more than a decade, in part as something my kids and I can do together and, in part, so I can build a nice collection that I enjoy looking at and will one day pass on to them when they're old enough to take care of them (read: She Who Must Not Be Named won't steal/sell them like she did with the original collection). TMI.
In any case...all these new sets/companies have my head spinning dizzingly, to say nothing of the terminology I see bandied about. I'm setting up an ebay account, taking my kids to a local hobby shop tomorrow and looking to get some pointers/tips from y'all so pony up the suggestions because this "old" man sure would appreciate the help.
Right now I'm just wanting to dip my toes in the water, so to speak, before committing to larger purchases, but I am interesting in figuring out a direction to go, getting familiar with the hobby once again and developing a particular collecting interest and discovering where best to begin feeding that interest.
And, of course,....I love to trade. Always found the barter system to work for both parties far more often than buying/selling with dealers. One man's trash...and all that. ;)
So feel free to smack me over the head, kick me in the pants and help get me moving. I'm a quick learner. I just need a little help knowing what the heck I'm doing on the first day of school. And, of course, it's always nice to make new friends.
Blessings!

First off Welcome to SCF Big Klu!!! Glad you found us tonight and I hope you become a regular on this site.
I would look into just buying singles of some of your main interst at first. Build your collection for a while and buy very few packs or boxes until you become more familular with what you are really looking for. This site can be a great learning tool for that as well, there are many skilled and veteran collectors that can help you along the way. I would try and take advantage of that and just read and observe while asking questions as they arise. It wont take long before you will be back in the saddle and have this thing figured out!!!
Please feel free to PM me with any questions you may have and I would also suggest looking over the SCF Rules when you get a chance to help you learn many needed things about this site.

Hello and welcome to SCF! Big Cincinnati fan here as well, mostly focusing on the Big Red Machine and Negro Leaguers who played for Cincinnati. I just completed my Big Red Machine RC set, sans Perez and Rose because I'm poor, take a look in my bucket for it. I agree with what was said above, buy singles, build you collection, get some trades under your belt and then really start to dig in. This is a great site and you can pick up some fantastic deals - I'm sure your PC will grow in no time.
If you haven't ready, please fill out all of your personal information in your profile. This address can only be viewed by staff and from the other trader once a deal has been agreed upon.
I would also recommend checking out this link:

Again, welcome and best of luck to you!
