The problem with all the teacher/student sex scandals
Ex-Teacher Says She Never Had Sex With Student
A teacher charged with having sex with a student said she was the victim of a wrongful accusation...
...Howell said she told the principal about the rumors after she heard them.
"I told him then and there, I've never had sex with this student," Howell said. "I have never seen him. I have never even seen him off campus"...
...Howell said she went to the police station to take a polygraph test, but instead was arrested, and within days she was suspended and fired.
"There's not DNA, there's no pictures, there's not video, there's nothing," she said.
I was waiting for something like this and I'd say it's probably happened before. The whole sex crime issue has turned into another witch hunt, the way a lot of improper conduct with minors issues have gone. I'm in no way defending the people who actually did what they're accused of...they get what they deserve. But kids don't realize the full consequences of their actions many times and are quick to throw out accusations for personal reasons or sometimes just for fun.
I actually know someone who was sent to prison for supposedly molesting his cousin, but he didn't do it. That family was mad at his family for something stupid and decided to get back at them, so they made up this big story. So the guy (who is literally one of the nicest people I've ever met in my life along with the rest of his family, really just great people) had to spend time in prison, have his reputation ruined, has to register as a sex offender, etc all because his own kin decided to "show them." When you're charged with something like this, you're automatically seen as guilty and it's a very long, near-impossible battle to prove innocence.
And then there's the issues where a 19 year old boy has sex with his 17 year old girlfriend and goes to prison for it for years...the whole sex crime issue is out of control. Like I said, those who did the crime deserve whatever they get...but those who didn't do anything wrong don't deserve that.

Yea, there was a similar situation happen with my neighbor at my son's junior high, where he taught. A little girl that just didn't like him, accused him of touching her inappropriately .Immediately, without first investigation, he was put on paid leave while the investigation was taking place. Unable to prove anything, the school district just went ahead and moved him to another location. Needless to say , his reputation and ability to obtain other teaching jobs have been tarnished. He actually moved out of my neighborhood and I have no clue what has happened to this guy. Pretty sad situation, if you ask me!

It does become a he said/she said argument and for what ever reason its the students that everyone believes. I have no clue when, as adults, we would ever take the word of child/teenager over that of a professional without any proof. I know I had a teammate from college who went through a similar situation as your neighbor Ron. Luckily he had documented the students behavior and told the administration she was acting "funny" ahead of time so when the claims came he had protected himself. Its sad that just by making claims an educator's career is destroyed. I really think parents (not all of course) today put too much faith into what their children tell them, as though they are unable to tell a lie.

I'd like to share a quote I once heard: "In the court of public opinion, the accusation itself IS a conviction, and an acquittal is not an acquittal."
