Get the Parade Going! More Info on Crosby's Birthday Bash!
Sidney Crosby, Captain of the Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins, and proud native of Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia announced today he will be bringing the cup home on Friday, August 7.
“I am very excited to bring the Stanley Cup back to Cole Harbour,” said Crosby. “People from home have been so supportive of me since I was a youngster playing at Cole Harbour Place. I want as many people as possible to be part of this day.”
The “Stanley Cup Celebration for Sid” will get underway at 2:30 with a parade from the Portland Hills bus terminal on Portland Street to Cole Harbour Place on Forest Hills Drive. Numerous events are scheduled for the afternoon and early evening including a fan question and answer session with Sidney. There will also be an opportunity for fans to have their picture taken with the Stanley Cup.
Minor hockey Associations throughout Metro will be sending Timbit hockey players to participate in 3 on 3 ground hockey games.
“Every kid playing street hockey dreams of raising the Stanley Cup over his or her head,” Sidney added. “I’ve been very fortunate to be able to do it for real, and hopefully this is a way of sharing that moment with young hockey players from Cole Harbour and metro Halifax.”
Other events include Sidney’s Hockey Hall of Fame, featuring the famous dryer dented by many shots in his parent’s basement, face painting and more.
The public will have an opportunity to purchase limited edition posters. Every purchase will enter the buyers name on a ballot. Prizes from the ballot draw include 87 lucky fans that will have the opportunity to have their picture taken with Sidney and the Stanley Cup.
A limited number of commemorative t-shirts will be for sale at the event. 100 % of proceeds from t-shirt sales, poster sales and barbecue sales will be donated to charity through the Sidney Crosby Foundation.
The event will wrap up with a concert featuring a popular band. More details on that and the entire celebration will be made available over the course of the next few days.
Well that settles it, I'm taking the day off and I'm going to go have me a bunch of fun!

A couple of guys wore Leafs jerseys when they got their picture taken with the Cup when Matt Cooke brought it to Belleville. Therefore, go nuts!

Oddly enough, those are the only colour photos of the Stanley Cup and somebody wearing a Leafs jersey.
