Custom Questions
I am fairly new/or recently back into TTM, and I am curious about making customs. Do you guys use scans of other peoples pictures/scans of baseball cards for the actually picture on the custom? I am thinking about getting involved with in myself, because there are alot of older players that I no longer have cards for that I would like autographs from that I would have to either go to card shows and dig through singles/buy old hopefully unsearched/unopened wax packs. Also, how about 8x10's... do most of you guys purchase them from legit sources/dealers or do you print them up yourself? Just curious since I don't have any quality camera equipment and from my experience it is not easy to snap your own photos even at spring training.

For the pictures I find a nice, large picture of the player and cut out the background using a photo editing program. Thats how most people get the images. I've made several 8x10's the same way, just on a larger scale. For some of the older players, you may not find images big enough to fill and 8 x 10 so at that point you may just want to buy one.

So your just finding these online? Or are their other sources like magazines, etc.? I guess this would be for true collectors, since the pic's are 'borrowed', therefore would not have any resale? Not that I care about that part, I just hate 'borrowing'. I might have to talk to a couple of my photographer buddies to see if they have anything decent that they would like to lend out.

Try that or look on flickr.com for images liscensed with a 'creative commons' license. There are a few different kinds and conditions, but basically they are letting other people use there work.
I get all of mine online. I keep all of my customs as well so resalve value is not of much importance, but since the are not my images you are correct that I couldn't sell them. If you're making customs of your home town team, a decent digital camera and a fairly close seat should work as well.
