If they use any banned substance they shoudl get suspended for the whole season with no pay. This is the only way people are going to stop doing it.

I personally would just ban him all year. They just have to get drugs out of sports. I know it may be a little dramatic but it sure as heck would get the other NBA players to not even think about drugs. Baseball should do the same thing. You test positive, your out. You would be alloud to make an appeal and ask for a re-test but basically you would be gone. Just my opinion, doesnt have to be yours.

I think a season suspension is very extreme, I mean it may be a problem in other sports, but it's not like an overwhelming problem in the NBA. Besides, I really don't know what advantage you get in using performance enhancers in basketball. I mean, besides Centers, there's only a few big bodied forwards who use their strength and power to their advantage, such as a Lebron James and Ron Artest just to name a few.

A season of suspension is kinda harsh. I mean...does it help him make his jump shots? Does it help him pass or dribble? All it does is make him stronger, which I'm sure helps, but I just don't think that it deserves a season suspension. His punishment was fair if you ask me.
Everyone said that Michael Vick's situation would get NFL players to open their eyes and stop doing stupid crap, yet, we still hear about NFL players getting arrested for killing people when they are drunk, fighting in strip clubs, punching their wife, and what have you.

That why they should get strict regulations. I don;t know if this helps their performance or not but is a violation to the rules and it should be punished

I just don't understand how a supplement that can be bought over the counter is on the banned substance list. I lift, and I probably take the same stuff that got him in trouble. There needs to be a sanity check in the league office. If you can buy it at GNC or other supplement supplier in the US, you'd think it would be ok for a pro athlete to use.
Let's be clear here. He tested positive for a precursor that elevated his testosterone, not steroids. He wasn't in a bathroom stall sharing needles with Canseco and Bonds. He went into a GNC, asked the salesman for something that would help him recover, and made the purchase. Until more evidence is produced, I believe the guy's story.

So what do you call a 10 game suspension with no pay?

Wow...not something you hear about too often...
10 games for the first violation isn't too little IMO...you gotta remember that he is a, what, 11-year veteran and this is his first offense? So, it's not like he's a chronic user or anything...but, in case he is, the NBA's policy gets stricter - 10 games for first positive test, 25 games for 2nd, 1 season for 3rd, and lifetime ban for a 4th positive test...
Stinks for the Magic though, as they really do need him to be able to contend with the Celtics and Cavs.

I agree with the whole season thing. Plus, if he did it again, and I was the NBA commish, BAN!
