Lebron James unlikely to sign contract extension...yet

Lebron James said that he it is unlikely that he will accept a contract extension prior to the end of the 2009-10 season. He said that he "wants to keep his options open." However, he also said (at an earlier date) that he wants to remain in Cleveland beyond this upcoming season.

So, we won't hear the end of the "will he or won't he" discussion for about a year...lol

He would make more if he waited to sign next year wouldn't he?

Not really, they said salary caps might go down next season as well. So idk why he hasn't signed yet because he won't get big bucks anywhere except maybe New York with those endorsements

I think we'll know where Lebron's heart is once this one is over. The only way his critics will be silenced is if Lebron stays in Cleveland for significantly less than he's worth. If he moves, he'll be accused of chasing the money. If he signs a fat contract in Cleveland that pushes them way over the salary cap, he'll be seen as wrecking the team's future.

But... a championship or two would turn a lot of critics' opinions on their heads.

I don't know. He might have said that he will stay, but talk is cheap. I've heard athletes say they are staying all the time and go back on their word, so I'm not buying it until the ink hits the paper.

haha i was going to say the exact same thing happened with Lamar Odom. During this past season he said he was going to take less money and resign with the Lakers but then put a scare in us laker fans by almost signing with the Heat. But he said it was all part of business.
