Michigans Minimum Wage Going Up...
Not sure if this has been discussed or not, or if this is not just Michigan who is raising the minimum wage but Michigan will be rasing the minimum wage for minors (17 and under) to $7.15 i believe thus raising minimum wage for anyone older than 17...
Now am I alone, but why!?!?!
In a struggling economy, you raise the minimum wage in which it will probably result in more people losing jobs due to companys not being able to afford as many people...
Lucky for me, i already make $8 per hour!Hidden Content

Yep. Minimum wage is a very, very short fix. It's a sign of laziness on the part of the Government in not finding a more effective long-term solution.

I have no stats to back this up, but just basic intuition (and a few economics classes my first two years into college) tells me that it takes a quarter or two for a pay increase to really affect employment. In the short-run, it helps minimum wage workers get more money and buy there things. It's a happy thought, but those same people have a good chance having being let go just a few months down the road.

100% agreement...it's just common sense that when unemployment is high, you do things to increase hiring, not decrease it. Not only will it result in fewer people being hired, but in some small businesses, it will result in layoffs as well. Just one more of many issues that illustrate how little Obama and Congressional Democrats know about basic economics. No offense intended to you at all Dan, but if a high schooler with nothing more than basic knowledge in economics can figure it out, why can't the people running our country?

no offense taken. Yea, I thought it was common sense as well, with a state with so many people who cant find a job, why raise the minimum wage? It will only result in more people without a job...
Recently, there was a Sonic opened by where i lived, i talked to someone who got a job there, they said over 1,100 applications were put in and only 150 were hired, i think that speaks alot to how bad the job situation is

As a type 1 diabetic, I'd much rather have $7.25 with benefits than some $12/hour job with no benefits. I can't even join the military because of this disease (my family looked into the air force as an option, and I do not qualify!). Having a few extra bucks an hour isn't going to help pay for expensive insulin needs for the insulin pump (unlike type 2 diabetics, this disease requires full insulin therapy - I can't just change my diet and exercise routine because the islets of Langerhans cells in my pancreas have been completely destroyed - I produce no insulin whatsoever).
