yeah I am a cat owner and if a snake did that I would probably rip its jaws apart with my bare hands and have some cooked python for dinner.

Definitely a sad story and would be horrible for a pet owner especially if they had to witness it. I did read the comments on that article and some people did bring up some great points. I do agree that large snakes should definitely be regulated and to allow it to roam the back yard seems to be fairly dangerous on the owners part. However, we don't know what restrictions he had in the back yard to keep the snake on his property.
I'll also say that it could be looked at as just as much the responsibility of the cats owner to keep their cat safe and out of other people's property. As a home owner that lives in a neighborhood with quite a few roaming cats that dig up my flower beds and use them for bathrooms, is it really that safe to allow your beloved pet to roam around where ever it pleases? I know that cats are great about finding their way back and this is common practice, but how has it become okay for pet owners to allow their cats to wander into others' property. Of course you shouldn't expect it to come into contact with a python, but any time you let your cat out of your house to roam I would think that you're accepting some sort of risk that is may not come back whether it simply run away, get hit by a car, taken by a coyote or any sort of other type of wild animal.
Sure I can agree that a roaming snake is much more dangerous, but don't both pet owners have the responsibility to protect their pet and others from what their pet may do while not under their supervision?

If the snake was on her own backyard and teh cat was the one who jumped and got killed. Then I don't feel sorry for the owner. He should be more careful with his pets. If it was the other way around then it was wrong from the snake owner to let her go out.

guys , you cant keep a cat pinned in a backyard if its not a outdoor cat. and its not like you can take your cat for a walk. i live on a bunch of property so its not a problem for our cats but if you live in a neighborhood then have indoor cats.

Prime example of evolution. The weak gets eaten by the territorial predator.
