If They Only Acted Sooner !

TORONTO (AP) -- The Toronto Maple Leafs have traded goaltender Justin Pogge to the Anaheim Ducks for a conditional draft pick in 2011.

If the Ducks & Leafs would have pulled the trigger on this deal a little sooner, then maybe the "Toronto-smitten" folks at Upper Deck would have left Pogge off of the #'d to 99 RC list and put a more deserving freshman in there ?!??! Guess it worked out for me, because I can pick up my Filatov RC for 3-figures, instead of 4......

There is no way Filatov would have hit 4 figures, 99 rookie or not. He wouldn't even come close actually.

Now, now....we all know how people rush right out to buy these /99 RC's and pay ridiculous prices right out of the gate when The Cup hits the market (a la Toews & Kane from last year). I'm sure there are a few knuckleheads out there that would have paid a grand for it...especially with the way the CBJ patches can look. It's not a matter of "Is this guy worth it"...it's more about "It's The Cup...it's out of 99...and I gotsta have it."

Sure I get that, been buying tons of Cup cards myself the past 3 years.

That said, Toews and Kane are top end guys, Filatov is not. He is a VERY good prospect/rookie but not a true impact player yet.

Rookies that are impact players already are Stamkos, Wheeler, Mason, Giroux, Doughty, etc.

Sure, maybe a few copies with unreal swatches would possibly get close if he were a 99, but I honestly think with the economy the way it is it would be tough to crack 4 figures even then...............................

Very good points on both ends, I'd say. I do think that Filatov is going to be "SICK" (as the youngsters put it these days...can't believe I said that). I'm putting together the Draft Boards set, so if you have any of these from your 08/09 Cup breaks....especially Filatov, would you let me know via PM, please ? Good chat, sir....good chat.

While I agree that Pogge was a garbage pick for the /99 rookies (like Tlustly before him) I don't see why anyone is surprised. This guy had a lot of hype around him, and he played for the Leafs. I don't know when exactly the Checklists get made..... but I'm sure it was early enough that it made sense to them at the time.
