Postal Service to consider consolidating or closing hundreds of local facilities
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090804/...ostal_closings
The post office is facing a $7 billion loss this year despite a 2-cent rate increase. The agency has shed 150,000 workers since 2000, removed hundreds of mail collection boxes and taken other steps to save money.
Now the agency has sent a list of nearly 700 potential candidates for closing or consolidation to the independent Postal Regulatory Commission for review, and officials say more may be added
Doesn't look good for us. I know a lot of people don't care about the post office anymore but if they continue to raise prices and close more offices it will just get harder to trade and sell.Selling all my cards here updated as of May------------> Hidden Content

This is all true, and I see it locally. I tried applying at the post office a couple of months ago, and they said they are not looking for any new employees, and in fact said they were laying off several!
And when I last mailed something late last week, one woman alone had to take on a huge line of people delivering their mail (including me). She was really trying her darndest, but it was not fair to her that she had to handle all those people at once. I could sympathize as my last job was similar - as my office manager stated, one receptionist alone should not have to take on long lines of people at an extremely busy office, but one person was all they could afford, as was the case at the post office.
Plain and simple, many people are having to take on too much work with all these layoffs, monetary losses, and now a stupid minimum wage increase that make it almost impossible for companies to increase levels of employment.

I have 2 near me, so if one closes it's ok. But if they both close. Uhoh.
