Going To The Hobby Shop....

..hopefully tomorrow and I want to buy a box of hockey cards. I'm relatively "cheap" when it comes to boxes. I look for a box that's about $100, and with some hits (ie. trade bait or autograph PC), and I've totally been out of the loop as to what's come out and whatnot.

So, my question is, what can you recommend that will be a good buy, with some hits, and possible the more hits, the better....

I know the rest of the hockey staff is going to lynch me, but I still think you can't go wrong with Artifacts

2 Rookies, 1 Rookie Redemption, 1 Auto and 3 GUJ or Patch cards...

you could also go BAP Signatures... but keep in mind, that the 08-09 versions are overpriced IMO

I'm not sure of the pricing for a lot of brands, but BAP might be a way to go.

If you don't care so much about autos, you might find UD Ser.1 from 07-08 or 08-09 to be fun. 6 YGs and 2 GU on average plus inserts with the chance of case hits like game patches /15 and signature sensations. Usually runs for about $80 per box. Dependiong on the year, you have a shot at pulling Price, Kane, Backstrom, or Mason, Stamkos, Schenn YGs.

Artifacts for 100$ bucks would be the way to go, 10 packs 10 hits pretty much. Unless you want to get something high end, try ulimate..they are a hit or miss

I disagree. Artifacts RCs dont really have much resell value. The tandem/jersey cards can be limited, but the top ones have a resell value of around $20. You might get lucky and hit a small patch (when I say small, I mean the actual size) and your auto is likely to be Maxime Talbot rather than a star player.

That said I've opened up 3 random boxes of Artifacts this year and have not pulled one patch.

I also disagree with BAP. You will likely come out of a BAP box break with a Komisarek, Ballard, Talbot, Gilles etc autos and maybe a rookie or two, but the autos are stickets and BAP is notorious for not holding its value.

I don't consider any of the boxes I buy "cheap". I consider stuff "expensive" (the cup) or a "good value" (UD, artifacts, SPA, BTP).

That said I recommend:

a box of BTP
or if you hate goalies
a box SPA

artifacts!!! got 7 patchs out of 4 boxes this year!!!! 2x ed/10 and 1x ed/5 woout wout!!!
