    BGS grades in...

I sent an order to Beckett using a coupon a while ago, and got the results today. I did it with my friend Dan again, and he got the better end of the deal:

    My card:
1991 UD Chipper RC 8.0 eww....

    Dan's cards:
1952 Bowman Vern Law RC 5.5
    1956 Topps Ted Kluszewski 3.5

Obviously not that good for me, but good for Dan. Next time, I send a Pack Fresh card...
If you need to contact Dan, he is 101589dpm.
    Regards!
    Mike

    huh? I don't understand

You got your card graded 8, which isn't too bad, even though it is a modern card

but his cards were basically just average to below average, what you'd expect from cards that old

how is it that he got a better deal?

    I don't understand

Looks like a pretty even split between you two.

If anything, he got the 3.5 bummer card.

Well, his cards were from 50 years ago, literally. A Chipper graded an 8 is worth about $3. I think that his are worth a lot more than that, based on the age and average grade.

What does it cost to have cards graded?

The current deal is 10 for 10 each, I really don't think it's worth it unless you know you will get a 9 or above.

If you spend $10 and have a card graded at "8" and it is only worth $3. I have a hard time seeing the appeal of graded cards.

I didn't spend $10. I had a free coupon for subscribing to Beckett. Don't forget about the $12 return shipping...

It's not really worth it unless you had a perfect, pack fresh card, or very good old card. I got my Chipper RC in the bargain bin at a card show for .50.

You win some you lose some. I'm gonna get a Mulder or Baldelli RC and ship it out with another coupon I'm going to get.

    Regards,
    Mike

yep - that's the reason I've never had a card graded

plus, I can't really grade my own cards, so I couldn't even say what it may get

    not worth the money

    Never gotten anything graded here.

I collect for fun. I know what condition my cards are in, I don't need to pay $20 for some guy to tell me what condition my card is in.
