Yes, Kobe, through his agent, refused to play for any team except LA. It wasn't a slam on Charlotte. He made it known before the draft that he only wanted to play for LA. Charlotte picked him knowing they would trade him to LA for Vlade Divac.

In that case, Charlotte made a GREAT trade!!!! hahahahahahahahahahahahaha they made out with the best end of the trade

I really didn't know that Kobe made such demands, I know Charlotte traded him right after drafting him, but not because Kobe didn't want to play for them. wow, see, you learn something new every day!

I never knew that Kobe refused to play anywhere but LA...not to go off topic here, but he acted bratty then, but turned into a great player...hope the same will be said about Ricky Rubio! lol

Vlade Divac wasn't exactly a scrub when the trade was made...he had several productive years under his belt, and had a few more to follow...nothing like what Kobe is, but he wasn't just a bench player either...plus, it's not like the Hornets were idiots, for two reasons - 1) twelve other teams passed on him, and 2) he said he wouldn't play anywhere except LA...so, the Hornets drafted a player, and traded him to get a proven veteran...definitely not a bad move when you look at it from 1996, or even 1997 and 1998...was definitely a good move for the time it happened.

It would be weird seeing Kobe playing for the Hornets. They'd probably still be in Charlotte.

Yah, really as I know KB denied to play at other teams.

So that might be reason why he was 13th pick.

I think it might not be weird than your thought.

If there(hornets) were KB, there would be Glen Rice, Anthony Mason with KB.

Charlotte is crazy Basketball city as I know. Where is UNC located ? =)

and EJ(Mentor of KB) was Hornets temporarily.

But I think Hornets picked KB to trade. not for their team. =)
