The Fitness Thread
Hey, I'm starting to get into working out and stuff and I thought it would be cool to start a thread like this to help others when they have questions. We could also set goals and see how much progress we make. Let's see how this works. I'll start.
I'm 15 and I recently started going to the gym to work out. I have a good muscle tone, but I want to start getting ripped. I have my weights down and all of that, but I my questions are about nutrition and routines:
1. I've heard about high protein smoothies like muscle milk and other products that people drink after working out. Should I use these, and how will they be most effective?
2. How often should I work out a week, and how often should I rest?
That should be a good start.

not sure about the drinks, but work out 3-4 days a week for about 2-3 hours, then on your off-days, jog around your neighborhood or something, maybe jog to the store (if its close lol) and get some you need.

I wouldnt drink protein shakes or eat the bars, I did that for a while and I noticed nothing. Just a waste of time
Im a football player so I work out usually 5 times a week(On days we dont work out in football, I go to my gym or workout in the garage)
Just eat fruits & Veggies and lots of Meat to get the protein and drink fat free milk.
Usually about 3-5 times a week but change up what you do every day. For example in weightlifting in 8th grade this is what we did.
Mon- Did some Cardio and like some step workouts. Stuff to get the blood flowing and heart beating
Tues.-Benched and did curls(do light weight for like 2 weeks then switch to heavy for two weeks just so your body will expect something different rather than the same thing)
Wednesday- Core(Stomach,ABs w/e you call them, lol) Workout(Sit ups,Planks, and pull ups and chinups at the end of a workout
Thursday-Legs(Usually do Cleans or Squats but rotate)
Friday-Bench again do same as above
Also before we worked out we did warmups
25 3 count Jumping Jacks
Stretched Arms,Legs,Groin, etc
10 Pushups
Hope that helps :)
I do think this thread is a good idea also
Im happy with myself but wouldnt mind losing a few pounds but turing them into Muscle so I can play fullback and Halfback:flex: Im currently like 5'6 175lbs but Im in shape

Yeah, I used to be in soccer, basketball, baseball, everything you can name. I stopped playing though because I wanted a life outside of sports. So now I just run cross country with my friends.

I stopped after 8th grade. There's tons to do without sports. Girls, free weekends, working out on your own schedule...I just have so much more of a social life now. It's whatever you like to do though. It also doesn't help that my school gives 2-3 hours of homework a night.

It depends on how you define "ripped" some people define it as just getting big (I.E. football player kind) but I prefered to keep a six-pack while concentrating on other parts of my body also ( chest, lats, tri, bis). Im pretty big 5foot 8 172 pounds but I still rock a six pack
1. Yes protein shakes work but dont start using them yet. I know alot of your friends drink them ,but I think your too young and it might curb your height.
2. Once again this depends on how you defined "ripped" but your definantly gonna need to incorporate some cardio (3 is good but preferably around 5) long distance cardio (3 miles if you can) but watch out on the calorie deficit that creates

Yeah, I stopped with organized sports for the same reasons as FootballCardFreak (or at least try to limit myself to one sport a year lol)
Anyone got tips for building up endurance /stamina for running? like drinking shakes/ pumping etc, or should running x amount of miles each day work?

What type of stamina? Like are we talking about miles or meters?
