2009 Donruss Threads Preview...
I've been buying Threads every year for that last 4 years. I always liked the design of the base cards and the Gridiron Kings inserts.
Given that I have to be a bit more choosy about what I buy this year, I've taken the time to put together a preview the compares the last three years to this year's product.

I agree with you...not a fan of the base cards or Gridiron Kings inserts. Of course, I soured on the base cards last year, but I did still like the GK. Panini is definitely making some bold moves with some of it's designs...Rookies and Stars and Threads are definitely bold and different.

I really don't like Rookie and Stars at all. However, from what I'm hearing in feedback to my preview, some people really like the new designs. I'm very curious.... it seems to me that maybe the younger crowed likes the newer designs while the older crowd isn't a very big fan. I'm not exactly sure what age would separate "younger" from "older" though.

Yeah that design is a bit to "busy" for my taste. I think you may be spot on with panini maybe going for the younger crowd with the new "extreme" designs to their products. I think last years threads looked great.

If Panini is going for the younger crowed, I hope the response to their designs shows them that they need to work on things a bit. I'm sure they could come up with a "modern" look that doesn't offend the eye so much.

I know that people like to see a familiar look to their product like Elite, Prestige, and the rest. I am getting tired of it and this new design is at least something different. The idea of getting cards that I can't differentiate the year without looking at the date on the back is boring. Think that is why I still love busting regular old Topps. New design every year...

I guess im with the old crowd, even though im 26, lol. I dont like how R&S looks like someone spilled black ink all over the cards and i love the throwback sets like last years mayo, 09 magic and philadelphia. I honestly have no interest i this years mayo though, the white card stock, which i bet is glossy, makes it look like 90% of the roducts on the market and nothing like a throwback set.

Although you're probably right about the glossy look of the cards, I'm really looking forward to this year's Mayo.
