Poll: Americans split on public option

Poll: Americans split on public option

The public option: It's a lighting rod in the current storm of health care reform. Federal lawmakers are split over whether such a government option should be included in any bill that comes out of Congress — and a new national poll indicates that Americans are equally divided.

Forty-seven percent of people questioned in an NBC News survey released Tuesday say they oppose a public or government option that would compete with private health insurers, with 43 percent supporting such an option. That 4 percent gap is bigger than the poll's sampling error.

The survey also suggests that Americans are split over whether a public option would help lower health care costs and provide insurance for many of the millions of Americans without coverage. Forty five percent agreed with that description but 48 percent said a public option would reduce access to their choice of doctors and limit their options for medical treatment.

47% against a public option, 43% for...yet the minority is going to get it's way. I thought Democracy was based on what most of the people wanted?

It's a shame when people vote out the majority party because they don't like what they're doing and want "change"...but the people they vote in are doing the exact same things with different slogans and agendas. The goals are different, but the tactics and lies are the same.

And what really kills me is the people who were up in arms about things that happened in the Bush Admin, yet are happy with how the Obamastration is doing the same or worse.

It would cause a paradox. Just ask Dr. Emmit Brown how bad that can be

    Democracy? What is that?

Whatever happened to "for the people, by the people"? Oh, it changed to "for the politician by the politician". I'm sorry.

The regular people are just a bunch of puppets. Sucks for us.
