why is there all this talk about the end of the hobby lately?

Beautiful question. Do any of us honestly believe that someday we'll wind up with cash in our pockets and NO ONE willing to sell us any sportscards?

If the estimates from that article are right, there's still $200M in sales to be had, and that might just be baseball.

I have no idea why the topics being brought up, I think it helps because more people buy them when they hear about them regardless of what they hear. If they are talking about sports cards on espn..you know someone bought em.

Buy a box for 110$, get about 45$ worth of cards. Its a money pit. So unless you get the best rookie auto or a card for your PC, you pretty much have a lot of cardboard laying around. Even if you trade, you still dont get enough value.

It blows my mind when I see what the stick and ball sports have come to....I used to be a huge collector of Racing, Football, Basketball, AND Baseball, and am slowly stopping on all of the stick and ball sports....there's almost no point anymore. Everything is so overproduced anymore, unless you pull a superstar card that's really rare (which you can only do by purchasing very high end product 99% of the time), you don't get anything worth value.

And as far as some of your guys' complaints that only having one company produce cards is a bad thing, I couldn't disagree more. Press Pass has a monopoly on the Racing card game, and they put out incredible product after incredible product. You will RARELY hear someone complain about Press Pass releases. Racing cards hold their value 100x more than bb/fb/bkb does, and it's just so much nicer to know that if you do HAVE to sell your collection off, with racing, you're gonna make money off of everything you have. It's shocking if you see a RU sell for any less than $10, REGARDLESS of how bad the driver is. Unlike the other sports, where if I have 100 FB game used, I'm gonna make around $1-$3 per card no matter what.
