it would be the cards that are part of the main set, not the inserts or subsets. When it comes to paralells, i cant answer this question, because the paralells for the cards from the main set have the same card numbers as the originals, like topps chrome has the blue refractors, refractors, x-fractors, and auto paralells. Me i consider them true rookies as they have the same numbering and design and everything as those from the main set with just a little something different. I've asked about the paralells and have yet to get a consistant answer so whether or not they are considered true rookies, i dont know. SO i would just stick with the cards that are part of the main set to be safe.

If you happen to have a beckett, any card with RC beside it is a True Rookie Card. Also like JFBanicki said, the true rookie card is the card in the base set. Inserts are not RC's. Only thing I disagree with is I don't consider paralells to be True RC's, but like he said people have different opinions. Donruss Classics & Elite have True Auto/RCs along with Contenders, SPA, Ultimate, and National Treasures, maybe a few more products. Not sure who has True GU/RC ( except SPA with their True RC/Auto/GU) And then all the lower end products have normal True RC's like Topps, UD, Playoff Prestige etc.
Edit* Bowman Sterling also has True RC/GU
