Non-hockey in hockey releases. (a bit of a rant)
OK with the confirmation of Lebron autos in the Cup this year among others, this is getting out of hand! I don't get putting fossils, golfers, baseball, basketball etc etc etc... into hockey releases. I was ok with just Champs being this way but now with the Cup and ICE having it, thats 2 more products I'm gonna stay away from. There are other releases that can have a mix of sports why do you have to put them into hockey too????
Just the thought of pulling a curling auto out of ICE as my case hit instead of say a frozen foursom or ice premiers patch makes me shudder. I get that some people are into this sort of variety, but lets keep it to a minimum!!
Sorry, not sure if anyone else feels the same but I had to put it out there!

I get what you're saying....... and would have agreed a year ago. Now, well, I couldn't disagree more.
Personally, I have no interest in 'The Champions' autos (all the figure skaters / other Olympians) but if you're avoiding products that have them - you should cross SPA, Ultimate, and OPC Premier off your list too. I believe they all have more.
But the idea in general, I like. I've busted a bit of Champs - hoping to find a fossil redemption. Considering just buying one on eBay. I'm working on a set of the Historical Figures - but I've always been a bit of a politics geek (not just hockey) so that's just me. I have no real desire for animal cards, but again..... that's my own taste.
But bringing other non-hockey sports stars into it? Why not. It's going to create interest in the products from collectors of other sports, and likely help Upper Deck's bottom line, because they'll sell more product, quicker.
The other thing to consider - these autos ain't really that bad of a deal. I can almost guarantee that the Lebron Auto will outsell most (if not all) of the hockey autos in the set. Whoever finds this one.... if they have no interest in it..... will make a nice profit.
For the future - I think you're going to see more and more of these kinds of cards. Upper Deck has these other athletes under exclusive contracts, and with no NBA, NFL, or MLB product to put them in - non-hockey autos are going to become normal in our breaks.

I really hope there are no "The Champions" auto's in SP Authentic, and if they are and they replace a "hit" I will not be a happy camper. As for Lebron in The Cup, I'm with RanfordFan, I'd rather hit a Lebron auto than a patch/auto of almost any NHL'er any day(with the exception of Datsyuk or any of the big guns like Orr, Howe, Gretz, Sid) from a $$$ standpoint.

Having other sports stars in our products = higher demand for our hockey product = more expensive for the true hockey fans that just want hockey cards.
I agree, having some oddball things like fossils / historical figures / other sports is ok for 1 product ( champs ) ... but having it in EVERYTHING is out of hand, especially in the higher end stuff. I have been saving for SP Authentic and have enough for almost 2 cases ...... but I dont want to hit other sports cards. I am a hockey collector, I collect hockey .... I dont want other sports in my HOCKEY products

I agree. The only positive I see is if you pull the Lebron, sell it, and then buy more product, or a high end card you are after. Are there a lot of non-Hockey in the Cup? or just Super Star like Lebron and Kobe? I'd be really ™™™™™™ if I bought The Cup and pulled a Ron Artest auto or patch.

Other random cards being in the set is the reason why I won't buy Champs, although I do understand that there are people who really enjoy those other cards.
I'm a huge sports fan, and if I pull something really cool from any sport, I'm happy. As long as they don't continue with this Champions thing, I'll be fine. I want either hockey players, or SUPERSTARS from other sports in my boxes. I can live without Ice Dancer autos :P

Isn't the whole idea to appeal to the specific sports market. I would be highly shocked and surprised if a basketball collector bought The Cup in hopes of landing a Lebron. The basketball collector would save a ton of money waiting for it to show up on ebay rather then bust multiples of The Cup. Not to mention he/she would be stuck with a bunch of hockey cards. I dont see the appeal. I would prefer UD keep them separated.

I hate the fact that other sports are mixed into hockey card packs. For me as a Czech person with absolutely no interest in collecting any other sport than hockey, this will just keep me away from buying such products, that why i refused to put champs in my collection as well (plus i dont like minicards). And whoever said it, are you sure that SPA will have it? what exactly is the deal? I am looking forward for this product soo much and really dont wanna be pulling any non hockey players....as of for the cup, I was gonna go for it, but as i found out about this, i think im staying away from it...and Lebron would be nice but imagine that in a 350$ product you pull a guy that is crap and doesnt even play hockey....

I see this a different way. Having other sports stars in our products = higher demand for our hockey product = less expensive for the true hockey fans who pick up singles after the product is broken by people who don't collect hockey
In any case, speak with your $$. If you don't buy the products with multi sport stuff in it, its less profitable for the companies who make it.
