Anderson to fight Mir?

I just saw this on Sherdog. I don't have the source link, but they claimed it came from Sports Illustrated.

Rumor has it Anderson Silva asked UFC to set him up with a heavyweight fight for the challenge. Mir was mentioned.

Well, I don't know if this is bull or not, but I'm kind of thinking it is.

If it is, Mir will look slow, very slow, in the standup game. Even worse than Forrest did. If they get to the ground though, Silva, look out!

What in the world?!? That's a complete mismatch and has to be just a rumor. No offense to Silva, but he isn't built to take on the heavyweights of the UFC yet. Those guys are completely stockier than he is and would try to ground and pound him, given any chance with their strength. He's still smaller than some of the Light Heavyweights as well. It's best for him to go back down to 185 and have GSP move up in weight class to fight him, in my opinion.

I agree. I don't want to see him at 205 any more. I know he won't fight Machida, but that would be the only matchup I would even give a hoot about at that weight. I'd love to see him fight GSP at what, maybe 180? Don't know. I'd like to see Silva give some rematches. I'd like to see what Leben does with Rosholt, and if he wins, give him a shot. Of course, I'd like to see Hendo and Marquardt with a shot at him again too. Marquardt has to get past Maia first, but Silva/Maia would be a good fight too. Heck, I wouldn't even mind seeing Franklin get back in there with him. He's had an awful lot of time to think about it.

Silva hasn't "Cleaned" out the division, but he has come close. There are still some interesting matches at middleweight for the guy, even though some may be rematches.

I agree with you, rematches against Hendo and Nate are pretty interesting to me. Hendo looks great right now and was doing well the first time before he got caught in the 2nd round. Nate is a much improved fighter since the last time they met, so I really like that matchup as well.

But if he beats them both again, I think he should move up to 205 and try for that belt. Machida prob won't be the champ by then (nobody can hold onto that belt!), and Silva's already destroyed Forrest. I'd like to see Silva cement his legacy and join Penn & Couture as the only guys to hold belts in 2 different divisions.

Silva is fighting Hendo next. Silva won't move up to HW, and Mir wouldn't make the cut at 205
