Exclamation When is the scf price guide going to be available??

HEY, sorry for writing in caps, but i need attention to this matter. a huge problem i am finding with the site (albeit, it is an amazing site) is that lack of a concrete value attached to the cards. im sick of asking ppl the price of things - esp since i boycotted B---ett media. but when the price guide comes out, please make it more realistic than B---ett. why? because no one wants to pay bv!! what is the point of book value if there is a concurrent street value, and that street value is the real monetary value of yr card!?

also, you need to end this affair with photobucket. create an accessible inventory with pics of all cards, if possible. im sick of chasing down ppl with no buckets, scans, or lists to know what they have. it should be a given that i can easily access a fellow trader's inventory. i Know you have an inventory feature but no one uses it!!!

and lastly, i need to have a more formal way of trading than the bartering system with the 'post trade' feature. i need a formal offer plus the bartering so i can visually juxtapose the merits of the trade before the trade ends. because of this, i am not getting enough trading done and i loose track of deals easily. call me stupid whatever. and dont say 'if you like b---ett so much just go back there', because this place is so much better!!!!!!!!!! a million times better than the supposed 'wall street journal of sports cards' - b---ett!!

for a guy with 34 posts, you complain a lot. be happy with what you have and that is the BEST site to trade and sell cards there ever has been in existence.

If you are going to complain about BECKETT'S values', try using your own. If you dont think a BV is fair, do research on what they sell like on places like ebay or any other means you have.

as for an affair with photobucket, its not an affair. let me break it down to you. to have a system to store, hold, and share photos like photobucket takes up a lot of space. you have to remember that this site (i assume) is run on a dedicated server and with all the posts and other things on here there is not a lot of room. short of buying/renting out quite a few dedicated servers, you will never see a photobucket like module here. its unrealistic and would just cost the site a ton of money that could go towards even more amazing kick butt prizes.

and honestly before you go and criticize the trade system try checking out some other crap sites that require you to make a thread with the trade details in it, having the other trader agree, then each has to post saying they received their cards. oh yeah and on top of that, some other sites don't have automated feedback. whats that mean? their crapshoot, lackluster team of moderators has to manually give feedback. why does this benefit SCF having automated feedback? so simple. gives mods/admins more time to deal with the issues on the site/make the site better/run kick butt contest that make this site so amazing.

so seriously before you complain about things, go to other sites, see what its like there, and tell me this isnt the best site for trading cards.

I do not think the point of his post was to by whiny. It is to express the confusion that comes from different people having different bars set as far as values go. This is a legit problem with the hobby. Mainly those who use Beckett values exclusively as the end all be all, or those who use it when it suits them, and then flip flop when they can get more out of using other mediums of assessing value. I trade using 2 guidelines. Sell Value, and my own opinion of value. Today alone I have engaged with 3 different traders. In those trades negotiations I have offered to trade 1 high end for somewhere around 50 low-medium end cards. In another I offered to ignore giving $6-10 sell value in order to facilitate the trade. The problem is too many people are stingy and cheap when it comes to helping out other traders or even in terms of simply closing a deal out.

I make it clear I do not use bv, and that I do not care if the trader is even to T. I am fine with losing a few bucks if I am getting something I like. This is how it should be. There really should not even need to be a price guide, but unfortunately there has to be some sort of universal guideline to keep some of us in line.

Photobucket is great. Its useful for trades, displaying a PC, and storing images for when you need to show them off or sell them.

to be honest it sounds like you would be better off with the B---ett website for trading. I actually just signed up there, and I do see where you're coming from. Trading, and finding people that need your cards, and finding cards you need, is a LOT easier. It also has the "inventory with pictures and values" that you think this site needs.

I think this site could really benefit from a lot of the B---ett sites features, but you present all this in an attacking manner so I think it'll be hard for people to take your suggestions seriously...

For the record, in one day on B---etts trading site, I've made 5 trades =/ It definitely has its advantages. But I like the community feeling of this site a lot more. I see this site as a forum with the ability to trade, and I see B---ett as a trading site with the ability to post on a forum. They're definitely a bit different. I wouldn't complain if one of the two improved the aspect they're lacking :)

The tone is a bit off but I do see where you are heading and I can confirm to you that this is where we are heading.

    You mentioned mainly two thing:

1- Sales value: We did announce that we will be unveiling our new Online Price Guide soon in stage to members this automn. The application is completed and we are working on populating data in it. Again having a application is half the job, having the data is the other half and this take time. The OPG data will grow in time but we are far from Beckett that has been collecting data for 20 years. Still we have a partnership with Tuff Stuff prices guide that we used to start the database. the staff is now helping in entering prices that we collect here, on ebay and Tuff Stuff. We are aslo looking to add other sources in the future. Take some time to read the 2 annoucements that were made.

    https://www.sportscardforum.com/showthread.php?t=842381

    https://www.sportscardforum.com/showthread.php?t=853276

2- inventory with image: We actually have a inventory system but it never was used much because it not friendly user and to hard to enter them. The solution was to code one as none existed really. We also tried VBay but that too is not doing the job. So creating it was the solution and this is what I am currently developing for this site. I don't want to talk too much about it but I can say it will let you have a image per item, descrition with BBcode editor, payment option (Paypal supported), shipping option, card categories (lots, single cards, memorabilia etc...) will support USD and SCF Card Cash as currency. It will cover buy it, accept offer and auction. I wont go futher into the detail but all member will be able to search all stores items from each member store a bit like on eBay. It will still use the trade manager and feedback system for sales.

2010 should bring those 2 tools live. It will not be release until it's ready as we want this project to deliver what member have ask. I already have coded my own OPG on my site for personal trading along with my "bucket" Just check my link in my sig.

I also coded the new Trough The Mail Manager (TTM Manager) this summer, take a look at it.

So maybe your wish will come faster then you think... We also have ton of projects in mind for 2010. So stick around.

i can not wait until we get the new price guide. beckett just does not update their priced from year to year. they pretty much set it and forget it. best example that i can think of is this:

i am in the heroes and prospects case break draft. we pulled a claude giroux auto. that should be a decent pull. well here is the difference.

    2006-07--$15 BV
    2008-09--$40 BV

now i understand that he broke out now but how can his first autographed card sell for $25 less. neither of them are listed a SP as well.

See, this is exactly what i dont like...i speak my OPINION and my mind and now i am whiny, and should be better off at beckett. I am NOT the one with his own site, SCF is, and I am pointing out what i like and what i dislike as a user. Does not mean i should go create my own site!!

What was wrong with my tone? i compliment SCF, and so what if i bad mouth beckett, this is scf not beckett. i got a personal beef with beckett media and i wont be purchasing any of their products...if i want to throw down money for a hobby price guide i would want it from a legit source, SCF, who knows what they are talking about.
if beckett's been around 25 years or whatever, maybe that's a problem, maybe with the boom of the net, ebay and yr little communities here, BV has become obsolete and meaningless.............

Cannot the hobby take criticism??? so what if i speak out and say something with only 42 posts!? Does that really matter? This is a public forum and a democracy, ill say what i want.

There is nothing wrong with constructive criticism. Sure, on sites like UCB and HI you get banned the second you criticize the wrong people, but here it is different, and that is why this site is far and away the best. Just cuz a couple of members want to jump down your throat does not mean you should stop giving your honest opinion. Remember as well, you gave your thoughts on the situation, and they responded with theirs, its a 2-way street; however it's nothing you'll be ostracized for provided its done in a civil manner.

In regards to the changes being made, I can say that the degree of growth I have seen over the last year on this site is exponential. Trust Luke in terms of the work he and other staff are doing to improve the site. It will only get better.

ALondonKnight I think you got some pretty good responses including my own in which I agreed with some of your points. Also, read CoolHandLuke's post. Very informative and it looks like SCF has a bright future if these ideas get implemented soon.
