Black Diamond Rookie Cards
Are the Black Diamond double, triple and quad diamonds considered parallels? I have both Henrik and Daniel Sedin black diamond rookie cards, and they are triple and double diamonds. Are they still considered a true rookie card or just parallels?

the amount of diamonds just signifies the rarity really of the card. Unless it was different when they were rookies.

It was different back then. I know which set you're talking about (it's 97-98, I think). The true RC of the Sedins would be single diamond cards. There are double, triple, and (I think) quad parallels. That set had Luongo and Lecavalier RCs too, if I'm right. They are not considered to be true RCs.
Nowadays, Black Diamond just tiers the rookies.... so low ends guys are usually triples, and the higher end guys are quads. I think their original release (96-97) used the tier system that they used today. I'm not sure how many other years they did the parallel thing.

Yes your right it was 1997-1998. I have the Luongo and the Lecavalier in single diamonds. The value unfortunaly is nothing compared to the "double or triple ones" which sucks becuase I was thinking of the getting the triple of them. But since I collect rookie cards if the double etc are not true rookie cards no point buying right?

I wouldn't say 'no point'. Very nice cards.... they're parallels of the rookie cards. Despite not having the 'RC' tag... I would imagine they'd fetch higher sale prices. If you only want true RCs, then no.... these don't fit that description. They're still pretty nice cards though.

30randford fan nailed it. The 97-98 Black Diamond base set consisted of all single diamond cards. The double diamond (orange), triple diamond (yellow) and quad diamond (gray) are all parallels of the single diamond base card.
03-04 was the first year that UD tiered the base set with common players as single diamonds and stars and rookies as double, triples and quads. Cards from 03-04 WOULD qualify as RC because despite being an SP multiple diamond, they represent the only true "base" card available for that player in the set.Hidden Content

Thanks for the insight, I never knew all of this. So a Patrick Marleau double diamond rookie card from 96/97 will be the true rookie card right?

Yes. 96/97 had the tierd system. Joe Thornton is a triple diamond, I think. They dropped it.... and switched to parallels for 97/98.... and then (according to the other post, I'm not really sure) switched back to tiers in 03/04.
